Draft - Outline of Summary Reader Response
Style 1: Traditional Linear Outline
Summarized Article’s Main Idea + Thesis Statement (Level I
Controlling Idea):
Southeast Asia’s transition
towards clean energy is slow although solutions are available, efforts made by
the region is underwhelming and insufficient to make an impact in the
contribution to a “greener” world.
I. First Supporting Idea -
(Level II Controlling Idea):
Southeast Asia enjoys an
abundance supply of renewable energy resources yet the region still lacks
behind in transitioning towards clean energy to help support its booming
economies.
II. Second Supporting Idea -
(Level II Controlling Idea):
Southeast Asia is the only
region that has not achieved low carbon emissions level but instead is
increasingly contributing to it globally
III. Third Supporting Idea -
(Level II Controlling Idea):
The demand for power will not
decrease due to the economic success in the region, and as such the
policymakers and businesses have to seize this opportunity to make a change
+ Your Main Idea/Thesis Statement (Level I
Controlling Idea):
Although the region is
making efforts in transitioning towards renewable energy, the government need to
start collaborating with businesses to lessen their dependency on non-renewable
sources of energy.
IV. First Supporting Idea -
(Level II Controlling Idea):
The
report should have included more information on the low-carbon technologies and
solutions.
a.
Explanation of the supporting idea:
Due
to the differences between countries, each having their own strengths and weaknesses,
what are the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of the low-carbon technologies
and solutions.
b.
Example or citation which supports your assertion:
“In Southeast Asia, a region with tremendously diverse
economies, resource distribution and population densities, a one-size-fits-all
approach will not suffice to accelerate the transition towards a clean energy
future.”
“To bring down emissions, the region must deploy a wide range of
low-carbon technologies and solutions in the areas of electricity generation,
storage and transfer, and each country must
consider its own specific challenges and opportunities,” – (Moniz, 2019)
c.
Other statements which help support your assertion
V. Second Supporting Idea -
(Level II Controlling Idea):
A
more detailed report should have been published to explain the increase in
carbon emissions globally and the biggest contributors in the Southeast Asia.
a.
Explanation of the supporting idea:
The
article wrote that the region is “lagging behind” and is the biggest contributor
to greenhouse gas emissions globally.
b.
Example or citation which supports your assertion:
“With its large coastal population and agriculture
dominating many of its economies, Southeast Asia is particularly vulnerable to
climate change, and yet it is the furthest behind on climate action.”
“Southeast
Asia was the only region in the world where the share of coal—the single
biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions globally—to generate power actually
increased.”
“The
region is also lagging behind in the implementation of mandatory efficiency
measures.”
c.
Other statements which help support your assertion
VI. Third Supporting Idea -
(Level II Controlling Idea):
Southeast
Asia has yet to implement much renewable energy solutions, this in turn becomes
an opportunity for businesses to enter the market.
a.
Explanation of the supporting idea:
With
the increasing emission of greenhouse gases compared to the other regions, this
means that the Southeast Asia is lacking behind in the world towards a cleaner
and greener future.
b.
Example or citation which supports your assertion
“The region is also lagging behind in the
implementation of mandatory efficiency measures. This means that the potential
to improve energy efficiency is huge.”
“To
adopt renewable more quickly, Southeast Asia needs more innovation to reduce
costs in the power, industrial and transportation sectors, adding
that technology, business and policymakers must collaborate more closely.” - (Moniz, 2019)

Other statements which help support your assertion
VII.
Conclusion – Review of Main Idea (Tying Yours and That of the Summarized
Article’s)
The main
idea of the article was to raise awareness on the impact of lagging behind in
the race towards an energy-efficient future for the world and the importance of
the issue here in the Southeast Asia. There needs to be an increase in efforts
for this to happen. Businesses can be motivated by government policies and incentives
for their green initiatives and this can start moving economies towards a
common goal which is to lessen our region’s reliance on non-renewable sources
of energy.
